My customer who has allowed me to use her story came to see me about a dress to wear to an awkward meet the parents dinner party.
I will call her Ru but that's not her real name. Ru has this charming fiancee' (Roy) and they've been dating for about 5 years. He proposed last year and it was time to meet his parents who live in France. She has previously met the dad while he was on a business meeting in London.
Before she met him that time, Roy sat her down and explained to her that his dad is super charming (read flirty). And it's a known fact in the family, which he apparently can't help. He will flirt with anyone and anything in a skirt. So Roy said to her "Don't mind him, he will say some stuff but just pretend you didn't hear him". Easier said than done! According to Ru it was the most awkward one hour ever.
So six months down and it's time for Ru to be introduced to Roy's family officially. She was panicking on what to wear to this occasion. According to Roy, they were expecting a turn out of about 120 guests. She knew she would be the centre of attention and she wanted to look simple and nice. In her own words she wanted to look like a "shy bride".
After trying on countless dresses, we agreed on this lovely rose pink dress. She loved the fact that it was all covered up and so even if all eyes were going to be on her, she wouldn't be self-conscious. The dress fit her perfectly, it draped beautifully on her size 12 frame and with a pair of heels, it was off the ground. She is naturally a minimalist so we decided against a necklace but instead opted for a dainty bracelet and a black patent clutch bag to match her patent heels.
The dinner party is this weekend so all fingers crossed for Ru and waiting for an update on what dad-in-law says.
